© WeForest

logoEuropcar and WeForest, an international non-profit organization, part of the UN Global Compact, dedicated to re-forestation signed a partnership to offer Europcar’s customers the opportunity to be part of a unique action: plant trees in the desert.

Today, thanks to the support of its customers, Europcar is proud to announce that 12 920 trees have been planted in Burkina Faso, allowing to absorb about 6 tonnes of CO².

Europcar offers to its customers, through the booking process (online, station, call center) to add the option named “Carbon Offset” and donate a green fee of 0.50€ to plant trees in the Burkina Faso desert. For each tree a customer buys, Europcar also commits and add a tree.

We have been totally convinced by WeForest project to plant trees in Burkina Faso to protect this vulnerable region from further degradation and impacts of climate change. This is totally in line with our environmental approach

Marcus Bernhardt, Chief Commercial Officer, Europcar GROUP

Europcar’s environmental commitment

This partnership strengthens Europcar long commitment to responsible business practices and policies. Europcar’s Environmental Charter, labelling by Bureau Veritas in 2008, was renewed in June 2012 for three more years. The Charter provides a veritable roadmap for the company in terms of environmental issues. Europcar operations in its 7 European subsidiaries have been certified to comply with the ISO 14001 standards. The overall aim of these standards is to support environmental protection and prevention of pollution.

Furthermore, Europcar offers its customers one of the greenest fleet with e-vehicles, hybrids and green vehicles. At October 2014, the average CO2 emission of the Europcar fleet was 119.7 g/km.
